LaPorte mayor drops out of Indiana auditor field

INDIANAPOLIS -

A northwestern Indiana mayor has asked Gov. Mike Pence to remove her name from consideration to be appointed the next state auditor.

LaPorte Mayor Blair Milo says she can best fulfill her commitment to serving the people of LaPorte by remaining as mayor. Milo's first term as mayor runs through 2015.

The Munster Times reports Milo is among at least six Republicans whom Pence has interviewed for the post. Current Auditor Tim Berry is set to resign after his expected election Monday to chair the Indiana Republican Party.

Pence spokeswoman Christy Denault says Pence is grateful Milo was willing to consider serving.

Pence has said that whoever he picks should expect to seek a full term in office next year.
