Off-duty Grant County deputy killed in Madison County crash

A Grant County sheriff's deputy was killed in an accident in Madison County while off duty Friday afternoon.

Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson tells Eyewitness News 49-year-old Michael Andry of Converse was riding his motorcycle south on SR 13 near CR 1400 North in northern Madison County around 3:30 p.m. Friday when a pickup truck made a left turn into his path. Andry's motorcycle struck the passenger-side door of the truck.

Andry and his passenger, 48-year-old Amy Weagley of Marion were taken to St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood. Andry was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Weagley was transported by helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis to be treated for critical injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, 26-year-old Carey Webber of Anderson is hospitalized at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood.

Police told the Herald-Bulletin newspaper in Anderson the truck driver didn't see the motorcycle and made a left turn onto CR 1400 North. The deputy's motorcycle struck the passenger side of the truck.
