A former Indianapolis Metro Police officer was sentenced Friday to one year of home detention.
David Butler had pleaded guilty to stealing a handgun from the home of a deceased person... while on duty.
Butler was already sentenced to four years for his conviction of robbery and official misconduct for taking $2,700 from the cars of two people he had pulled over.
An Eyewitness News report found that since joining the force in 1988, Butler was disciplined nine times and suspended without pay for a total of 78 days. He was suspended six times in the last five years and has six violations for neglect of duty, including sleeping on the job and repeatedly showing up late for duty.
