High water along the Ohio River following recent heavy rains has delayed preparations for the Madison Regatta speedboat race.
Regatta officials canceled Friday's on-water activities related to the weekend race and are closely monitoring the river's condition.
The Ohio River rose nearly three feet in 12 hours Thursday and is expected to crest Saturday night at just over 29 feet and stay at that level for much of Sunday.
Madison Regatta President Kim Washer tells the Madison Courier "we're going to race this weekend" despite the high waters.
Flood stage at Madison is 51 feet, but 29 feet is about as high as the river can get for the Regatta to proceed. At that water level, speedboats begin losing adequate access to the southern Indiana city's boat ramp.
