Indianapolis crisis hotline seeks volunteers

Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

A surge in calls to the local crisis hotline is now leading to the search for more volunteers to man the phones. Mike Dunn of Mental Health American of Indianapolis says more calls are coming in from returning service members, people who are losing their homes or their jobs and people who want to talk about their gender identity.

Right now, 23 volunteers man the phone 24-7. Dunn aims to increase that number to 90 volunteers.

After your application is approved, you get 40 hours of training and you eventually start taking calls at least six hours a year. You need a quiet private location where calls can be forwarded to you.
