FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP -

Charges have been dropped against a Franklin Township elementary school teacher accused of child molestation.

Thomas Haydock is a 25-year-veteran teacher. He taught the fourth grade at Mary Adams Elementary, where he's now on administrative leave.

Haydock turned himself in to authorities in July after he was accused of molesting a child in 2008.

The Marion County Prosecutor's Office responded to WTHR with this statement:

"In response to your inquiry, I can confirm that charges were dismissed against Thomas Haydock. After further investigation, our determination was that this case is not appropriate for prosecution. The victim's family has agreed to the dismissal."

Franklin Township Schools released this statement:

"The Franklin Township Community School Corporation (FTCSC) has just learned that the criminal charges filed against a current FTCSC teacher, Mr. Tom Haydock, have been dismissed.

Those criminal charges arose from one student's complaint.  There still remains the ongoing internal investigation being conducted by FTCSC concerning Mr. Haydock's conduct in connection with students.  This investigation will continue to determine whether there is substance to any student complaint as to the inappropriateness of Mr. Haydock's behavior with students.

Even though the criminal charges arising from one student have been withdrawn, the FTCSC believes it has an obligation to determine, to the best extent possible, whether inappropriate behavior separate and apart from criminal behavior occurred.  Until this investigation is complete, Mr. Tom Haydock remains on administrative leave and it would be inappropriate for FTCSC to make any additional comments at this time about this personnel matter."

Original Allegations

Haydock faced four felony counts of child molestation. Detectives say one of the alleged victims had been helping Haydock prepare his classroom for the coming school year at Mary Adams Elementary in Franklin Township.

Investigators say Haydock took the victim, just 10 years old at the time, to a cabin behind the school, took his clothes off, then pulled the boy's pants down and performed sex acts on him. This happened after Haydock allegedly touched the victim's private parts nearly 50 times.

Haydock was removed from his fourth grade classroom in April when the school police in Franklin learned of the allegations, according to the superintendent of Franklin Township Schools Flora Reichanadter.

"We notified Child Protective Services right away and put Mr. Haydock on administrative leave right away and continued to do some investigation. But really, it has been turned over to CPS and Metro Police," she said.

Court documents obtained by Eyewitness News say Haydock met the children when he was tutoring them after school or during the summer. He also taught at a summer drama camp at Roncalli High School, where he met at least one of his victims.

Haydock told one of his young victims that, at a special camp, he showed a group of boys how to pleasure themselves by showing them.
