A 77-year-old Hancock County man died while working in a barn Friday evening.
Hancock County sheriff's deputies responded to the report of a possible drowning on CR 1000 North, near the Madison County line, around 7:30 p.m. When they arrived, first responders were administering aid to Billy Badgley, but were unable to revive him.
Police believe Badgley fell into a shallow ditch he was digging in the barn and became wedged. There was a small amount of water in the ditch, but investigators don't know if Badgley drowned or if he had suffered a medical event before falling into the ditch.
An autopsy will determine a cause of death, but police do not suspect foul play.
