NOBLESVILLE -

Excise police have been targeting underage drinkers at Klipsch Music Center this summer.

As the Dave Matthews Band got ready to take the stage Friday night, the party was getting started early in Noblesville.

Uniformed officers will be policing the crowd this weekend. They're on the lookout for concert-goers who are smoking pot as well as underage drinkers.

The Dave Mathews Band fans are like the Deadheads of the seventies and eighties. They don't wait for the band to come to their town. They follow the band from town to town.

On Friday, the sun was out and the festivities were in high gear at the campground on the Klipsch Music Center property. Police say the better the weather, the more problems they have.

But the Excise Police tell us they're passing on the two days of Dave Matthews fans. They've arrested nearly 300 underage drinkers at concerts so far this year.

Travis Hicks is a student at Purdue with first hand experience with Excise Police. He was among the fans camping out Friday to see Dave Matthews.

"I have been to Purdue football games. They are there and they got me," he said.

Hicks says Excise Police arrested him for underage drinking. He is now of legal age. According to many of the campers we talked to, half of the fun of a Dave Matthews concert isn't the music. It's the party before the concert.

"We are all here for the same reason; for great music, for good people, for a memorable experience, and no one wants to leave in a cop car," he said.
