Indiana Republican Party Chairman Eric Holcomb is taking a new job as U.S. Senator Dan Coats' state chief of staff.

Coats announced Friday that Holcomb would run his office in Indiana and Dean Hingson would continue as his Washington chief of staff.

Holcomb announced earlier this week he would be leaving the top job at the state party. His announcement came with a round of other of departures from the party this week.

Gov. Mike Pence will get his pick of a successor to run the state party. Holcomb stayed on through the first six months of the new administration after serving as one of former Gov. Mitch Daniels' top aides at the Statehouse and later the party.

"I have long admired Senator Dan Coats from afar and more recently up close. Watching him represent our state with a strong determination to bring the Indiana model of success to the federal level is a model in and of itself," said Holcomb. "The opportunity to serve as a part of Senator Coats' team as he works to tackle the many challenges facing our nation on behalf of fellow Hoosiers is a great honor and natural next step."

Eric Holcomb will join the Coats' office on July 10, 2013.
