Suspect in Waynesville slaying now faces federal gun charges

Updated:
COLUMBUS -

Federal firearms charges have been filed against the man identified as the sole suspect in the shooting deaths of four people in southern Indiana.

The U.S. attorney's office in Indianapolis says a grand jury indicted the 55-year-old Columbus man Tuesday.

The indictment says Samuel Sallee was found in illegal possession of a .22 caliber rifle May 14 - three days after the May 11 deaths in Waynesville. It doesn't say if the indictment is related to the shootings. The man cannot legally possess firearms due to a felony record.

The suspect is jailed in neighboring Brown County on unrelated charges. If released, he would immediately go into federal custody.
