A five-year-old boy has died following a near-drowning incident at Bixler Lake in Noble County on Saturday.

The Allen County coroner's office says Dominic Slone-Lehman of Cromwell died at a Fort Wayne hospital where he was taken after being rescued Saturday.

Deputy coroner Michael Burris tells The News Sun that Dominic died Sunday night from lack of oxygen to his brain. The death has been ruled an accident.

It happened just before 5:00 pm. The boy was at the beach at Bixler Lake Park in Kendallville with his family when he went missing. Lifeguards conducting a headcount were one person short when the father of the victim also reported him missing.

Dominic was located almost immediately floating in approximately five feet of water. He was unresponsive. Lifeguards and Medics performed CPR until EMS personnel arrived and took over.

The boy was transported to Parkview Hospital in Noble County and later flown to Parkview-Ft. Wayne, where he died.
