Ex-worker seeks home for Miles memorabilia

ELKHART -

An Elkhart man who has thousands of pieces of memorabilia from the former maker of Alka-Seltzer hopes to find a museum willing to take them and pay homage to Miles Laboratories.

Arden Stickel estimates he has about 2,500 outdated bottles of Flintstone chewable vitamins, Alka-Seltzer boxes, promotional Frisbees and other items from his years working at Miles. He tells The Elkhart Truth he is willing to sell them to someone who will show off the collection.

Miles Laboratories was founded in 1884 by Elkhart physician Franklin Miles. Germany's Bayer Corp. bought the company in 1979 and gradually phased out production in Elkhart.

Paul Thomas of the Time Was Museum in Elkhart says a facility devoted to Miles would have a limited audience. But Stickel is holding out hope.
