AVON, Ind. -

Detectives from the Hendricks County Sheriff's Department are investigating what appears to be an accidental shooting in the 5700 block of Ridgehill Way Thursday evening.  The house is just west of Avon near Rockville Road and Hendricks County Road 525 East.

According to police at the scene, a girl identified as 18-year-old Rachel L. Myers was changing clothes in the basement of the house when a shotgun went off on the ground floor of the residence.

Police say two boys were in an upstairs bedroom handling the loaded 12 gauge shotgun when it discharged, sending a round through the floor and into the basement bathroom striking Myers.

Myers, who was visiting the home, was struck in both thighs. She was transported by air ambulance to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

She was released from the hospital Friday afternoon.

Police are investigating the incident.  They say Leif Senecal, the 19-year-old son of the homeowner, was holding the gun.

"We're still making sure that all the stories add up," said Hendricks County Sheriff's spokesman Jim Yetter. "But, at this time, with the shot originating from the upstairs bedroom into the downstairs bathroom, it doesn't appear to be anything intentional.  It appears to be accidental only."
