Indiana volunteers offer helping hand in Oklahoma

HENRYVILLE -

Indiana volunteers hoping to help Oklahoma tornado victims battled dangerous weather and a series of setbacks but were finally able to deliver supplies to hard-hit residents.

Indiana Cares left southern Indiana Friday for Norman, Okla. The group formed after deadly tornadoes swept through southern Indiana in March 2012 and had partnered with a church to provide toiletries, clothing, tools and other items to victims of the May 20 tornado that devastated Moore, Okla.

The News and Tribune reports bad weather slowed their trip, and once they arrived, the volunteers learned the church no longer needed their help or supplies. But they found a warm welcome in Little Axe, Okla.

Volunteers say meeting the victims made them realize how quickly lives can change and how helpless people can become.
