Pacers fans holding out hope

INDIANAPOLIS -

What a disappointing night for Indiana Pacers fans. They watched the Miami Heat put the hurt on their Pacers 90-79 Thursday night, and take a 3-2 lead in the NBA Eastern Conference finals.

"It looks like they fell apart in the third and couldn't recover. It's sad," said fan Eric Hagan.

The west side sports bar where Hagan and his brother watched the game was unusually quiet. It was as if someone hit the "mute" button on the small crowd.

William Wells offered his take on why the Pacers fans were subdued, "They do good this game, do bad the next. Do good. Do bad. They are coming in too relaxed, I think."

Now the Heat head to Indianapolis. Saturday night's game is an opportunity for Miami to clinch the best-of-seven series. And the Pacers have one last chance to even the series and stay alive.

Pacer fan Alejandro Gonzalez is optimistic, "Pacers are going to win it. Just a dumb game tonight but they will recover. They will do well."

Fans also watched the game at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Juli Ham left looking and sounding upbeat about hosting an elimination game. "We'll bring it home here," she said, "then take it back to Miami. Then it's anybody's game."

Saturday's Game 6 tips off at 8:30 p.m.  If the Pacers win, they head back to Miami for the decisive Game 7 Monday night.
