WASHINGTON -

President Obama says Carole King's album "Tapestry" not only sold more than 10 million copies, it made him a fan of hers.

The president spoke glowingly about King's music during a White House ceremony to honor her receiving the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Obama says King's music helped form the soundtrack for a generation of people in the 1970s.

King is the first woman to get the award, which is presented by the Library of Congress. Past recipients include Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon and Paul McCartney.

Last night's ceremony was recorded and will air on PBS next Tuesday.
