INDIANAPOLIS -

The National Weather Service confirms a weak tornado struck west of Indianapolis overnight and caused minor damage.

The weather service say an EF0 tornado with winds up to 85 mph struck about 2:40 a.m. Tuesday near the town of North Salem, about 20 miles west of Indianapolis. It toppled trees, snapped limbs, and damaged a barn.

The tornado was part of a large line of storms that swept across central Indiana causing sporadic damage in many areas.

The weather service says a survey also shows two separate paths of straight-line winds near where the tornado struck.

No injuries have been reported.

Indiana utilities reported more than 28,000 customers lost power before dawn Tuesday, largely in the Indianapolis area and from Terre Haute to Bloomington.

At 11:00 am, nearly 2,000 IPL customers and over 6,000 Duke Energy customers still didn't have power.

At the height of the storm, IPL reported more than 10,000 customers without power throughout Marion County at around 4:45 a.m.  Several lines were down north and east of Ritter High School on the northwest side.

Duke Energy reported more than 14,000 customers in the dark at 4:15 a.m., with over 3,500 customers in Boone and nearly 2,000 in Hamilton County.

Hamilton County dispatch reported the roof peeled off a gas station on S.R. 32 near Riverview Hospital in Noblesville.  Nobody was injured.

A short-lived tornado warning was issued for Hendricks County.

Several reports of power lines down and tree limbs on roads were reported in Morgan, Hendricks and Marion counties.

A tornado watch expired at 6:00 am. Central Indiana remains under a slight risk for severe weather Tuesday afternoon.
