INDIANAPOLIS -

Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries and four employees of a downtown business were forced to evacuate when fire broke out Wednesday afternoon.

It happened at 600 Kentucky Ave. and took Indianapolis firefighters about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control. The cause is suspected to be electrical. In all, 13 IFD units were dispatched.

The building, which is occupied by Indy Telcom Inc., had significant interior damage, especially on the second floor where firefighters sounded the air horns, fearing imminent collapse. Firefighters evacuated and went on the defensive. The floor burned through but did not completely collapse.

Damage is estimated at $500,000. The 14,000-square-foot building dates back to 1894.
