U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts will return to northwest Indiana to give the commencement speech at the Roman Catholic boarding school he graduated from in 1973.
Roberts is scheduled to speak at the May 24 graduation ceremony at La Lumiere School near LaPorte, about 25 miles west of South Bend.
Roberts graduated at the top of his class of 22 students 40 years ago. He was co-captain of the football team, co-editor of the newspaper, served on the executive committee of the student council and participated in several other academic, social and athletic clubs at the school.
The school's web site says the commencement kicks off its 50th anniversary. The event is not open to the public.
