It's another blazing fast day for Andretti Autosports and Panther Racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Four of the top five speeds belong to Andretti and Panther drivers.
James Hinchcliffe, the 26-year old Canadian has the fastest lap at 224.210mph. Hinchcliffe, winner in Sao Paulo earlier in May, is the fastest Andretti driver today but not far behind him is rookie sensation Carlos Munoz. The young Columbian has the fourth fastest speed so far today at 223.110mph.
Panther Racing posted the second and fifth fastest times today with JR Hildebrand hitting 223.652mph and Spaniard Oriol Servia at 222.093mph. Sarah Fisher Hartman driver Josef Newgarden has the third fastest lap at 223.123mph.
Temperatures at the track are the warmest they've been all week, which may be why speeds are their highest. That's also an issue with the new diamond-graded racing surface.
"The biggest thing we'd see is when it was really hot, we'd see tires wearing out way earlier than they normally would. But once the track starts getting some rubber down, certainly by the time we get to qualifying and get to the race, the wear rate settles down and we don't have any issues," said Al Spire, Firestone. "But we did have to make an adjustment to the tread compound."
