INDIANAPOLIS -

It's opening day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Temperatures will be in the low 60s Saturday and rain will develop later this afternoon. Less than a quarter inch of rain is expected with wind gusts up to 25 mph out of the northwest. That could affect the practice schedule at IMS today.

Saturday's events at the track include driver practice as well as the Celebration of Automobiles. Around 180 cars from 1914 to 1970 are on display, including race cars, pace cars, muscle cars and vintage autos.

"This is a great way to celebrate the Speedway," said IMS COO Doug Boles, speaking to Eyewitness News Sunrise this morning.

If you're heading out to the track, you may see familiar faces like Johnny Rutherford and Mario Andretti. Andretti is a head judge for the event, which features awards and a banquet later.

"It's a fantastic event for them," said Boles. "They enjoy showing their cars and they just love being here."

As for this year's race, Boles said it's the "second year with brand new cars and brand new engines. We can't wait to get them on the track!"

If you're going:

Public gates open at 10 a.m., with practice from noon-6 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, with fans 12 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult general admission ticket holder.

Boles also encouraged fans to look into getting a one-day garage credential that they can buy trackside.

Featured drivers for the 97th Indianapolis 500 include three-time winners Helio Castroneves and Dario Franchitti, who will look to join the exclusive company of A.J. Foyt, Al Unser and Rick Mears as four-time winners of "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing." Others to watch include reigning IZOD IndyCar Series champion Ryan Hunter-Reay and first-time IZOD IndyCar Series winners this season James Hinchcliffe, who won at St. Petersburg and Sao Paulo, and current points leader and Streets of Long Beach winner Takuma Sato.
