PLAINFIELD -

One suspect is dead and two others are in custody after a shooting related to a bank robbery in Plainfield Friday morning.

Plainfield Police confirm a member of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force shot and killed the suspect. Plainfield Police provided assistance but none of their officers fired shots. Witnesses report hearing ten shots.

UPDATE: FBI identifies suspects

"Just pandemonium," said neighbor Shannon Wagoner. "Those streets were blocked off, we didn't really know what was going on."

"I heard the commotion and looked up and saw the helicopters, got binoculars and saw it was Channel 13, so I thought something was going on," said neighbor Tim Burge.

The robbery took place at the State Bank of Lizton at 2100 Stafford Road near State Road 267.

Sources tell Eyewitness News investigators may have had them under surveillance after obtaining intelligence about plans to commit a robbery.

"The minute that the bank alarm went off this morning, our officers were in the area to obviously assist them," said Plainfield Police Capt. Jill Lees.

FBI and police pursued the suspects to the neighborhood of Stanley Road and Almond Drive, about a mile away from the bank.

"They almost got 'em stopped here at the corner, but then they chased them on down. They went around the block and then come back over here and that's when they got 'em stopped," said neighbor Rick Rush.

After the short pursuit, officers exchanged fire with the suspects, two men and a woman. One of those suspects, a man, was shot and killed by a member of the FBI Safe Streets task force. It is not clear if the male suspect fired a weapon at officers, but neighbors reported hearing nearly a dozen gunshots.

"Did not expect that at all, to see a body out on the street this morning," Wagoner said.

Another male suspect tried to flee on foot but was arrested after a short chase. Views from Chopper 13 showed a woman in handcuffs at the scene. The identity of the suspects are not being released at this time.

Schools were on lockdown for a brief time. No officers were injured in the incident.

The FBI oversees bank robberies and will work with homicide investigators from the Plainfield Police Department.

Federal investigators will also wait before releasing the names of the officers involved including the officer who may have fired the fatal shot.

They will also investigate if the suspects in this case are connected to any other unsolved bank robberies.
