IU hiring of diving coach raises degree questions

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -

Indiana University's new diving coach is facing scrutiny over a bachelor's degree issued by a university that also awarded an MBA to a dog.

Drew Johansen will join IU's nationally renowned program in July after racking up six ACC titles at Duke and four Olympic medals in London.

Critics say the job requires a bachelor's degree and that Johansen shouldn't be eligible because his degree in physical education was issued by Rochville University. The school has been accused of issuing bogus degrees in exchange for a few hundred dollars, and several states have banned the use of its degrees to obtain employment.

Athletic director Fred Glass tells The Indianapolis Star that IU knew about Johansen's Rochville degree but that his coaching credentials outweighed any concerns.
