IMPD investigates fatal shooting near Irvington Plaza

IRVINGTON, Ind. -

Metro Police detectives are investigating the apparent fatal shooting of a man in the 100 block of South Sherman shortly before 3:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Police responded to the scene when multiple callers to 911 reported hearing gunshots in the area.  IMPD officers arrived and found a black male in his twenties lying near a parked car.  Medics arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Ballistics investigators have marked multiple shell casings in the street near the body. The shooting occurred two blocks south of Washington Street and one block west of Irvington Plaza.

The Marion-Indianapolis Forensic Services Agency is processing the crime scene for evidence and the Marion County Coroner's Office will identify the victim once his family has been notified.

Detectives have not released any information about suspects at this point.
