BLOOMINGTON, IN -

Indiana University President Michael McRobbie is remembering former Gov. Otis "Doc" Bowen as a former IU student and professor whose accomplishments "place him among the giants of Indiana history."

McRobbie says Bowen "was an extraordinarily impressive man who leaves behind a legacy of immense accomplishment that will be felt across Indiana and the nation for decades to come."

The 95-year-old Bowen died Saturday night in a nursing home near his northern Indiana hometown of Bremen.

He served two terms as Indiana's governor and three years as Health and Human Services Secretary under President Reagan. In between those two posts, he was a clinical professor of family medicine at his alma mater, the IU School of Medicine. He also was a former speaker of the Indiana House of Representatives.
