Mayor: Not time for final curtain at Crump

COLUMBUS -

The aging Crump Theatre in Columbus has seen better days, but the city's mayor says it isn't time for a final curtain call.

Mayor Kristin Brown says she would like to see the facility restored and become an anchor of the city's Arts District.

The Republic reports the Crump was built in the early 1870s and has hosted vaudeville and opera performances, theater productions and a 2008 John Mellencamp concert that was recorded for A&E's Biography Channel.

A coalition hopes to begin a feasibility study this summer if the city's Redevelopment Commission approves the cost later this month.

The space is too large for some uses and too small for others, but Brown says she's confident the Crump still has a place in the city.
