A fire caused significant damage to eight apartments and affected 18 units overall at a two-alarm apartment fire on the city's west side Thursday afternoon.

Crews were called to the Port O' Call apartments on Port Irving Drive (off North Mickley Ave. near Rockville Road) at around 2:00 pm. Smoke was showing on arrival. It took firefighters around 20 minutes to get the fire under control.

Sixty firefighters in all responded to the scene. No firefighters were injured.

Two people were treated at the scene but not taken to the hospital, and an elderly woman was rescued from her apartment by firefighters. She was not injured.

While crews from Engine 84 battled the fire, someone got into the truck and went through personal gear. Crews have been inventorying department equipment and personal equipment to see if anything is missing.

Contact the Wayne Township Fire Department or Indianapolis Metro Police if you saw someone at the scene getting into the fire truck.

The fire caused $200,000 in damage. Investigators are working to determine a cause.
