The Doors' John Densmore wishes he had done more to help Jim Morrison

NEW YORK -

Former Doors drummer John Densmore wonders if Jim Morrison could have overcome alcoholism and go on to make brilliant music, the way Eminem did with his "Recovery" album.

Densmore says Morrison lived at a time when they didn't know alcoholism was a disease, and the band was making such great music no one wanted it to end. Densmore says he lobbied for a year to put touring on hold because "in a studio you can stop. In front of 10,000 people you can't."

He says he'll always feel guilty he didn't do more to help Morrison. Densmore has a new book called "The Doors Unhinged: Jim Morrison's Legacy Goes on Trial."
