Indiana trout season to open despite high water

INDIANAPOLIS -

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says trout fishing season will open as scheduled Saturday despite high water and swift currents.

DNR officials urge anglers to exercise caution, especially if they're fishing around dams or in flooded streams.

The agency says fishing conditions will be less than ideal at some locations and trout could be difficult to find. DNR's North Region fisheries supervisor Jeremy Price says fish will be seeking refuge in deeper pools, eddies and the downstream side of rocks, woody debris and other structures in the stream.

More than 23,000 rainbow trout will be stocked into 19 streams across the state by Saturday morning. The season opens at 6 a.m. local time Saturday and runs through the end of the year.
