GE hires 200 more workers for new line

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - General Electric is making a new line of washers and dryers in Louisville, completing a three-year transformation at its sprawling plant.

Company officials told The Courier-Journal (http://cjky.it/11FNPpP ) on Monday that GE's Appliance Park plant added two assembly lines for the front-loading washers and matching dryers and hired 200 workers.

GE said the 60-year-old plant has now added a total of six additional products and 3,000 jobs since 2008, when the company put Appliance Park up for sale.

GE spokeswoman Kim Freeman says it's all part of a $1 billion appliances investment the company announced in 2010, about $800 million of which was spent in Louisville. GE also has appliance factories in Lafayette, Ga.; Decatur, Ala.; and Bloomington, Ind.
