INDIANAPOLIS -

A Franklin Central High School student told police he was angry after an argument with his mother and attacked a teacher because the teacher was the nearest target.

Police say the 16-year-old student faces preliminary charges and possible expulsion from Franklin Central High School. He's already been suspended for ten days.

According to the police report, the student punched a teacher in the face about 8 a.m. Tuesday at the school's freshman campus. He allegedly said he hit the teacher three or four times before staff members separated the pair. Police say it was caught on security cameras.

The teen allegedly told police he was angry because his mother took away his video game system and his cellphone after he got into trouble at school, and he vented his rage on the first teacher he encountered.

The school resource officer asked the student why he hit a teacher and not another student. The student allegedly responded, "Because if I hit someone my age I may not have stopped and I would have put them to sleep."

The teacher was checked out at a local hospital for a jaw injury.
