The university announced Tuesday that the Mastodons will begin playing most of their home games on campus at the Hilliard Gates Center after 10 years of playing at the city's Memorial Coliseum.
IPFW athletic director Tommy Bell tells The Journal Gazette that a study done by students in an executive MBA class found that moving the games to campus was critical to increasing student attendance at the events.
Bell says games played at the coliseum drew an average of 86 students per game. Some had half that.
The Gates Center gym has 1,875 seats. It serves as the men's team's practice facility and is home to IPFW women's basketball and the men's and women's volleyball teams.
