Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard is promoting the game of cricket as he touts plans for a sports park during a trade mission to India.
Spokesman Marc Lotter tells The Indianapolis Star the city plans to add four fields that could be used for sports including cricket and lacrosse and would allow temporary seating.
The Times of India had quoted Ballard as saying the city planned to build a cricket "stadium" to make Indianapolis a prime venue for international cricket events.
Lotter says no stadium is planned but that Ballard wants to add outdoor fields that meet international standards for sports like cricket.
City leaders are working with the United States of America Cricket Association to organize the first U.S. amateur cricket championship.
