The defending WNBA champion Indiana Fever picked Layshia Clarendon with the ninth overall pick in the WNBA Draft on Monday night.
Clarendon, a guard out of California, averaged 16.4 points and led Cal to its first NCAA Final Four appearance after a 32-4 season, and was named to the first-team All-Pac-12. With the Golden Bears, she became just the fourth player to scored 1,600 career points.
The Fever previously picked guards in the first round in 2011 with Jeanette Pohlen and in 2009 with Briann January, and they helped lead the Fever to their first championship and a 22-12 record last year.
Indiana also has picks in the second and third rounds of the draft at Bristol, Conn.
Heritage Christian grad Kelly Faris was selected 11th overall by the Connecticut Sun.
