Young musicians in a prestigious Indianapolis piano competition will have bigger prizes to vie for this year.
The American Pianists Association's Classical Fellowship Awards will offer a $50,000 prize and the opportunity to record on the Steinway & Sons classical music label.
Association artistic director Joel Harrison says the group decided to increase the cash prize to make it commensurate with the level of talent.
The Indianapolis Business Journal reports the competition begins Monday with recitals across the city. The finals will be held Friday and Saturday and include performances with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra at Hilbert Circle Theatre.
The competition is open to American pianists ages 18 to 30.
