Purdue-Calumet to cut 50 academic-related jobs

HAMMOND -

Purdue University Calumet plans to cut nearly 50 academic-related positions in the next 18 months to help deal with a $4 million revenue shortfall.

University spokesman Wes Lukoshus tells The Times of Munster the cuts were announced in March at a forum for faculty and staff. He says about half of the positions being eliminated involve instructors, but the reductions won't impact tenure or tenure-track faculty.

Lukoshus says the cuts will be spread out among the university's departments. He says some of the affected positions already are vacant. He also says the Academic Learning Center in Merrillville will close after June 30.
