The Indiana Hoosiers extended their NCAA-best winning streak to 17 games Friday night.
Indiana beat Illinois 3-2 in the first night game in the 119 year history of their program.
Mike Basil's solo home run in the second inning gave the Hoosiers a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Casey Smith homered to right field to make the score 3-0.
Indiana collected just four hits, but the two home runs were enough for the victory.
A record crowd of 2,757 watched the game at the new Bart Kaufman Field in Bloomington.
"Personally, I'm bursting at the seams, because this is what we thought of eight years ago when we had the vision of what this could be in Bloomington. I think people are starting to feel that, see that. It was a lot of fun. It was a lot of fun to see the reaction on the kids' faces when you put 3,000 people in here and you can actually hear, in a rally, the crowd support," said IU head coach Tracy Smith. "It was a special night for me, because this is what we thought it could be."
The 16th-ranked Hoosiers are now 7-0 in the Big Ten.
