A late night fire forced twelve people from their apartments Friday night.
Flames and heavy smoke were coming through the roof of Heritage Apartments in the 4100 block of Stonecrest Court. The Indianapolis Fire Department was dispatched to the two alarm fire about 10:45 p.m.
Neighbors knocked on doors and alerted others to get out.
An unidentified woman jumped from her third floor balcony to escape the heat and flames. She was conscious and walking but agreed to be transported to Wishard Hospital to be checked out.
A few residents had smoke inhalation, but the only one was transported to Wishard Hospital in stable condition.
Three units were damaged by the fire. The apartment manager said they would be able to find apartments for all displaced residents with next few days.
The fire department had the fire under control in about 30 minutes.
Fire investigators estimate the damage at about $200,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
A pedestrian died after being struck by a sheriff's vehicle around 9:30 p.m. Thursday in the 5200 block of Madison Avenue on the south side of Indianapolis.
