An Anderson man is in trouble after police say he stole an Anderson Fire Department ambulance and crashed it into five parked cars overnight.

Police arrested Joseph L. Sandlin, 27, at around 4:00 am. After the crash, police found Sandlin in the driver's seat of the ambulance in the 1700 block of Main Street. Sandlin denied being drunk, but admitted to taking hydrocodone and other drugs, including "bath salts," (synthetic marijuana).

Officers took Sandlin to the hospital for blood tests to determine his level of intoxication.

When the arresting officer asked him why he had stolen the ambulance, Sandlin said he took it because he wanted to find a police car and wreck into it so that police would shoot him. No one was injured during the incident.

Sandlin faces charges of motor vehicle theft (class C felony), operating while intoxicated with drugs (class A misdemeanor), leaving the scene of a property damage accident (class B misdemeanor) and operator never licensed (class C misdemeanor). There was also a warrant out of Anderson City Court for domestic battery.
