New Indiana Dem chairman seeks rebuilding this year

INDIANAPOLIS -

The Indiana Democratic Party's new chairman says his party needs to spend the coming year rebuilding and reorganizing after mixed success in 2012.

John Zody said Friday he will not reveal all his plans just yet, but he said he'll bring to the state some of the techniques he used working on President Barack Obama's re-election.

Democrats won back a U.S. Senate seat and the school superintendent's office last year. But they narrowly lost the governor's office to Republican Mike Pence and saw their numbers further dwindle in the Indiana House of Representatives.

This year is an off-cycle year in Indiana. But 2014 will see all 100 state House seats, 25 Senate seats, all nine Congressional seats and statewide offices for treasurer, auditor and secretary of state on the ballot.
