INDIANAPOLIS -

The car stolen in a deadly home invasion last week has been recovered.

An alert resident spotted the 2009 black Hyundai Sonata taken during the March 15th homicide of Thomas Tefft in the 500 block of West 42nd St. There was no one with or in the vehicle. The car was towed to a secure site for forensic processing.

Tefft, 67, was shot and killed by an intruder last Friday morning. Police say the suspect cut out part of the screen of a back patio door and the door was not locked. It happened at around 6:45 am in a neighborhood near 79th and Harcourt Road. The gunman took off in Tefft's car, which was missing until today.

The suspect is still at large.

Police have no reason to believe Tefft was specifically targeted in the attack.
