How Al Pacino prepared for role as Phil Spector

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK -

Al Pacino did not visit music producer Phil Spector in prison to prepare for his role as Spector in the HBO movie about him.

Pacino says there would have been no point because Spector is a different man now. The movie focuses on the preparation for Spector's trial for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson. It starts with a disclaimer saying it's a work of fiction inspired by actual persons.

Pacino says it's set during trial preparation because no one knows what happened during that. Pacino was surprised to learn he's met Spector, because a photo exists of the two of them. He says he has no memory of that and they both look like they don't know who the other one is.

The film "Phil Spector" premieres on Sunday on HBO.
