INDIANAPOLIS -

We are now a month out from the Komen Race for the Cure and the Pink Parade. Money raised from last year's race was distributed Thursday by Komen of Central Indiana.

A total of 14 grantees today benefited from the $1.3 million distribution, including organizations like the Little Red Door Cancer Agency, the Gennesaret Free Clinic and the St. Vincent Mobile Mammography Unit.

Brenda Maxie is cancer-free and grateful her breast cancer was detected last year through a free screening in the mobile unit.

"The whole time I was working I had great insurance. My company changed hands, I didn't have any insurance when I retired. I had no insurance. I am just thankful for people like the Susan G. Komen group because without them I don't know where I would be," said Maxie.

"Our goal is to have 32,000 people downtown and to raise $2.3 million that's the money where going to use to fund next year's grantees so we need everybody in the community to come out on race day," said Dana Curish, Race for the Cure.

The race is April 20th. There is still time to register for yourself or get a team together.
