INDIANAPOLIS -
Governor Mike Pence says he is not in favor of reducing penalties for entry level drug crimes in Indiana.
Meeting with the media in his office Wednesday, he talked about current legislation making its way through the legislature. It would make dealing less than ten pounds of marijuana a class A misdemeanor and possession a class B misdemeanor.
Governor Pence says lawmakers are focusing on the wrong thing.
"I think we need to focus on reducing crime not reducing penalties," Pence said.
The governor says public safety is a top priority for his administration and he added, he wants to make Indiana the worst place to commit a crime and the best place for rehabilitation.
