Pence talking to local leaders who oppose tax cut

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

Gov. Mike Pence is talking to opponents of his call for a 10 percent cut in Indiana's personal income tax.

Pence planned to speak Tuesday at a Statehouse gathering of the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns. Local leaders have emerged as the staunchest opponents of Pence's tax cut, saying the money would be better spent on much-needed road repairs.

The state is facing a local road funding gap of more than $200 million per year. House lawmakers rewrote Pence's budget last month to exclude the tax cut and spend $250 million more annually on local roads.

The budget is now being debated in the state Senate.
