In testament to the difference one individual can make, a new brochure, Scientology, How We Help: Applied Scholastics, Achieving Literacy and Education, released in March 2013 by the Church of Scientology International, features the work of Mr. Bijay Sharma, a well-known science textbook author and educator who is dedicated to improving the quality of education in Nepal.

Nepal ranks 180 out of 205 countries in a national literacy comparison, and Sharma, searching for answers to this problem, discovered Applied Scholastics International online and Study Technology developed by L. Ron Hubbard. Training on the fundamentals of the subject, he initiated a pilot program with a cross section of students in his school.
?
Passing rates, previously hovering at around 30 percent, soared to well over 80 percent of all students across all grade levels.

Based on the success of that pilot program, Sharma enrolled at the Applied Scholastics International campus in Missouri for the full lineup of teacher training. Since returning to Nepal, he has built a program of 1,600 educators who are using Study Technology to transform education in their classrooms and the country.

More that one-half million science textbooks authored by Mr. Sharma are in circulation in Nepal, each containing an introduction to Mr. Hubbard’s Study Technology, making it broadly available to students throughout the nation. And he has now established a permanent Applied Scholastics training center in Nepal, which was inaugurated by the Ministry of Education.

Applied Scholastics International has trained over 135,000 educators from 42 nations who, in turn, have brought Study Technology to millions of colleagues and students. The organization works with hundreds of affiliated schools and educational programs throughout the world, providing the effective learning tools developed by L. Ron Hubbard.

The brochure Scientology, How We Help: Applied Scholastics, Achieving Literacy and Education is one of a series of publications presented by the church of Scientology International to meet requests for more information about the Scientology religion and its support of global humanitarian initiatives and social betterment programs.
