Singer Thomas Mars says they would buy things like Herb Alpert or Nirvana at this store in Versailles without any judgments. Mars says his record collection made no sense. He had enough sense, though, to realize when it came time for Phoenix to go into the studio, they shouldn't try to copy all those sounds.
He says they would have lost their minds if they tried to copy everything they liked because it's all over the place.
