Berry Gordy Songwriters Hall of Fame honor

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK -

You'd have to be a real Motown fan to know it, but besides being a founder of the label, Berry Gordy was a songwriter for the label he owned.

He was part of a group called The Corporation that got writing credits for many of the early Jackson 5 hits. Gordy is getting recognition by the Songwriters Hall of Fame - but not because of his writing.

The organization says he will receive the Pioneer Award this summer in New York. The award was set up last year to honor people the Hall says have been "a major influence on generations of songwriters."

It's been a pretty nice run for Gordy lately. A Broadway musical about his life opened this week in New York.
