LOS ANGELES -
A former Brownsburg High School student attending school at UCLA was arrested Friday after he allegedly choked a woman at the Theta Chi fraternity house near campus.
Paul Meyer was reportedly the
2011 valedictorian at Brownsburg High School and received a scholarship from
the education foundation to study Chemical and Microbiological Engineering at
UCLA.
The Brownsburg Community School Corporation released a statement Sunday afternoon, "Confirming Paul Meyer was valedictorian of the class of 2011, but will withhold any further statement on the alleged incident until an investigation is complete."
Fraternity members at Theta Chi
on UCLA's campus avoided answering questions to the media, "We aren't releasing any
information."
Police say early Friday morning
during a party at the fraternity, Indiana native and former Brownsburg High School Valedictorian 20-year old Paul Meyer allegedly assaulted a female UCLA student
that he knew.
Students on campus say they were
not alerted about the arrest.
"We didn't hear about it. It is
scary. It's a big school. It's a big place," said one student.
The University said Paul Meyer
was booked on charges of intent to commit rape and false imprisonment. He was
originally held on a charge related to an alleged choking of the young woman
but that was changed, according to the NBC affiliate in Los Angles.
Police said the victim was
treated at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and released.
Meyer is a member of the Theta
Chi fraternity and police tell Eyewitness News they are still investigating
what happened at that party.
Paul Meyer was released on a
one-hundred thousand dollar bail Saturday, according to the Los Angeles County
Sheriff's Department inmate locator website.

in L-A, Meyer is due in court for his initial hearing April 4.
