EVANSVILLE -

Angel Mounds State Historic Site near Evansville is celebrating Indiana's rich farming history, which began more than 1,000 years ago.

Native Americans living along the Ohio River were the first large-scale farmers in Indiana. The Spring Farm Fest this weekend at the state historic site celebrates all of Indiana's farming heritage, beginning with the mound builders.

Angel Mounds Program Developer Haley Tallman tells the Evansville Courier & Press the event also includes demonstrations of pioneer farming, lye soap making, corn grinding and shelling, rope making and blacksmithing.

The event runs through Sunday. Admission is $4 for adults, $3.50 for seniors and $2 for children.
